July 20, 1920 –  December 6, 2009  DENTON รข?? Funeral Services for Herbert Clifford McWhorter, 89, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. John Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at the Collinsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Herbert passed away on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 at his home in Denton.

He was born on July 20, 1920 near Collinsville to Robert Arthur McWhorter and Eliza Cleveland (Bruce) McWhorter. Herbert graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1938 and Texas A&M University in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Captain in the China, India, Burma, Theatre during WW II. Herbert married Florence Eleanor Gilbert on Jan. 5, 1948 in Sulphur, Kentucky. He enjoyed a career for the Army Corps of Engineers as an Agricultural Economist. While living in Collinsville, he served on the city council. Herbert loved softball, playing it into his eighties. He and Eleanor loved dancing at the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor McWhorter of Denton; 3 sons, John A. McWhorter of Denton, James N. McWhorter of Denton, and Joseph E. McWhorter of Tioga; a daughter, Janet F. Havens of Denton; a sister, Ella Veach Moran of Franklin, Tennessee; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Wade, J.V. and Bob McWhorter; and a sister, Faye Blassingame.
