December 16, 1917 – February 16, 2011 SADLER – Funeral services for Helen Griffin, 93, will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doyle Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Sadler Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Friday, February 18, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.She passed away February 16, 2011 at The Homestead of Sherman in Sherman, Texas.
Helen Louise Walker was born on December 16, 1917 to Charles and Elsie (Siebert) Walker in Sadler, Texas. Helen married William Wesley “Bill” Griffin on March 24, 1940. They had been married 52 years when Bill was called home by the Lord on July 8, 1992. She graduated from Sadler High School in 1937. She was a member of the Sadler United Methodist Church where she was the oldest member. She was a homemaker and dedicated her life to her family. She loved to crochet and made baby blankets for all her great-grandchildren. Helen enjoyed working in her garden and with her flowers.
She is survived by her sons, Bill R. Griffin and Judy of Alabama; Donald Griffin of Whitesboro; James Griffin of Sherman; her daughters, Brenda May and Richard of Sadler; Lue McCray and Dennis of Sadler; grandsons, Sean Griffin and Jessica of New Hampshire; Steven Griffin and Libby of Virginia; Lewis McCray and Jennifer of Houston; Ricky May and Jamie of Sierra Blanca; granddaughters, Vicki Nichols of Achille, OK; Gynda Welch and Chad of Sherman; Fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Charles L. Walker and wife, Geraldine of Whitesboro; and sisters, Pat Tamplin and husband, Claude of Gainesville; Luella Smith of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wesley “Bill” Griffin; her parents; great -granddaughter, Aubrey Kate Welch; brothers, V. L. Walker and Billy Walker; and sister, Madge McGuire.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Sean Griffin, Steven Griffin, Lewis McCray, Ricky May, Chad Welch, Chris Nichols, Stephen Griffin, Zachary Nichols, and Mason Nichols.
