Dorothy Patriel (Hogan) Ward passed from this world on the evening of May 1, 2019 at the age of 97.

Dorothy was born in Pilot Point, Texas on December 22, 1921 to Cas Edgar Hogan and Cleo Katherine (Lollar) Hogan.  Her family settled in Gainesville Texas on Truelove Street. She attended Gainesville High School and played girls basketball.  After graduating from High School, she continued to live and work in Gainesville, Texas.

She met the love of her life, William (Bill) Nicholas Ward, on January 11, 1943 when he traveled across the Red River on a weekend pass from Army Camp House, Oklahoma City.  After a 15-month, long distance courtship, “Bill” proposed. Dorothy traveled by train to Baltimore Maryland to marry. First Stop, Fort George G Meade where her “Bill” was now stationed while serving in the United States Army.

They were married on June 24, 1944, at Mount Vernon Place Methodist Church at the Washington Monument in Baltimore, Maryland.  After World War II their life together took them many places for work ultimately landing them in Dallas, Texas in 1960.

Dorothy lost her beloved husband in 1962 to his untimely death leaving her to raise and support her two young boys. She worked long hours, six days a week for many years in the Dry Cleaning and Laundry business until her retirement in 1987.  During her retirement years she began to read more and especially loved biographies and old classics.  She was the best role model a boy could have. She taught us about responsibility, hard work, honesty, money management but most of all, manners. Yes sir, no sir, yes ma’am, no ma’am, please and thank you and that your handshake is your word, your promise and your signature was your integrity.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cas and Cleo Hogan (Gainesville, TX), her husband William Nicholas “Bill” Ward, her oldest Son, William Robert “Bob” Ward and Grandson, Mike Ward.

She is survived by her son Craig (Deanna) Ward, Logan UT, her daughter in law Kaye Ward, Mesa, AZ, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home, 1204 E. California St, Gainesville, TX 76240. Funeral services will be held on May 10, 2019, at 12:00 o’clock at Meador Funeral Home and officiated by Rev. Scott Ward (Grandson).

Visitation will be held the hour prior to the service.

Graveside service will be conducted at Fairview Cemetery, 710 Fair Ave., Gainesville, Texas 76240 immediately following the funeral service.

The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria Gardens of Allen, TX for their compassionate care of Dorothy where she resided over the last several years.
