November 2, 1919 –  October 23, 2008  WHITESBORO-Funeral Services for Dorothy Hatfield Russell, 88, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 27, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 124 Center St., Whitesboro, TX with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro. Viewing will be available Saturday 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. and Sunday 8 A.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home, 401 Hwy 377 N., Whitesboro. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Russell family home, 106 N. College, Whitesboro.
Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Russell, retired captain for the Dallas Fire Department; her parents, Lee Roy and Velma Hatfield; sister, Louise King; and brother, Willie Guy Hatfield.

Survivors include sister, Polly Varley of Albuquerque, NM; brother, Leon Hatfiled of Dalhart, TX; children, Brenda Butler and husband Grady of Nashville, TN; Dick Russell and wife Terrie of Dallas; and Joe Russell and wife Sylvia of Pilot Point,TX.

Mrs. Russell had 9 grandchildren; Belinda Pandey, Nashville, TN; Greg Butler, Mt. Juliet, TN; Sherilyn Butler, Sarasota, FL; Rick Russell, Manhattan Beach, CA; Kerrie Smith, Dallas, TX; Becca Coile, Dallas, TX; Matt Russell of Murphy, TX; Jim Russell, Kaufman, TX and Ryan Russell, Denver, CO.

She also had 13 great-grandchildren.

The Russellâ??s were very active in First Baptist Church, Whitesboro where they were choir members and were the cooks for many years for youth retreats at Falls Creek, OK. Mrs. Russell was noted as a great cook and loved sharing her dishes with friends and family alike. Her specialty was pies, people also asked for her peanut brittle, party mix and sausage balls.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell were former members of the North Dallas Baptist Church for 30 years, leaving there in 1974. A friendship of 11 women, a former North Dallas Sunday School group started in 1942 and named â??The Sewing Club of the North Dallas Baptist Ester Class,â? continued to meet monthly until the last couple of years.

They were members of Jolly Good Sams and Ramblinâ?? Sams trailer clubs for about 20 years and enjoyed traveling around the country in their travel trailer with friends and family.
