April 6, 1941 –  December 20, 2008  WHITESBORO â?? Funeral Services for â??Cottonâ? John Charles Simmons, 67, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Dr. Joe Patterson and Don Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Sandusky. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at the funeral home.
Cotton passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at his home in Whitesboro.

He was born on April 6, 1941 in Columbia, Mississippi to Robert Myles Simmons and Myrtis (Debrow) Simmons. Cotton graduated high school in Garland, Texas. He was a builder by profession and was involved in many organizations, including the Whitesboro Riding Club, serving as president and lifetime member, Southern Trail Assoc., coached Little League Baseball, and was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Whitesboro. In his younger years, Cotton raced stock cars at the Devilâ??s Bowl in Dallas and was a Golden Gloves Boxer. Cotton helped raise money for many causes and was well loved, especially by children.

Survivors include three sons, Mark Simmons and wife Lisa of Whitesboro, Robert â??Bubbaâ? Simmons and wife Rhonda of Whitesboro and Brigham Edward Simmons of Portland, Oregon, a daughter, Vicki Geisler and husband Joe of Calera, Oklahoma, two step-daughters, Kadi Tolleson and Tanner Tolleson of Whitesboro, six brothers, Donald Simmons of Buchanan Dam, Howard â??Slickâ? Simmons of Manvel, Mike Simmons of Manvel, Dean Simmons of Royce City, Joe Simmons of Richardson and Kenny Simmons of Cut and Shoot, two sisters, Joyce Walker of Garland and Audrey James of Josephine, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and good friends, Joyce Simmons, Bobby Smith, Kenny Ing, Truman Case and Ronny Jared.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Myrtis Simmons, his wife, Rhonda Simmons and two brothers, Roy and Eddie Simmons.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Watson, Jack Hill, Donny Ferguson, Shane Greer, Kendall Clark and Bob Winborne.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronny Jared, Royce Heath, Bobby Smith and Ray Grisham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 3301 W. Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76107.
