April 23, 1942 –  January 14, 2015  WHITESBORO – Funeral services for Charles Curtis Whitecotton, 72, will be held Monday, January 19, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Interment will follow the services at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. All services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro. Visitation services will be held on Sunday, January 18th from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.He died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.
Charles was born on April 23, 1942 in Amarillo, Texas to William Curtis and Reba (Garrett) Whitecotton. He married Kay Winn on September 1, 1963 in Kanorado, Kansas. In 1966, the family moved from Elkhart, Kansas to Whitesboro, Texas. With his father and brother-in-law, he opened and operated Tel-Star Cable TV. He worked as the Vice President of Quality Assurance for Monitor Incorporated from 1984-1990. From there, he was co-owner and Vice President for ISC Data Com, Electronics Manufacturer from 1990-1992. From the fall of 1995 to 1998, he worked as the City Administrator for the City of Whitesboro. In 2000, he returned to ISC Data Com. He retired in 2013.
Public service was passion for Charles. He began serving in public office in 1970. He served 11 terms as a City Alderman. He also served one term as mayor. He has served on the boards of numerous civic organizations: the Greater Texoma Utility Authority Board, the Grayson County Airport Board, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, The Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Jaycees, the Booster Club, the Youth Football Association, the Youth Baseball Association, Rotary club, Planning and Zoning Development Committees, and Economic Development Board.
Charles was never too busy to follow his other passion: baseball. As a member of the Southwest Officials Association, he umpired countless youth, high school, and college games. He volunteered hundreds of hours in the organization of youth sports leagues and as a game official. In July of 1998, the City of Whitesboro dedicated a park in his honor to commemorate his devotion to the game and his years of service. In 2010, he was honored with the Citizen of the Year Award.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Whitecotton, of Whitesboro; son, David Whitecotton, and wife, Lisa, of Leander; daughter, Debbie Alonso, and husband, Joey, of Mesquite; son, Dale Whitecotton, and wife, Paige, of McKinney; son, Deron Whitecotton, and wife, Brandy, of Leander; grandchildren: Dr. Christopher Gaines, Morgan Addison, Brandon Burich, Andrew Whitecotton, Brylee Burich, Cooper Whitecotton, and Eli Whitecotton; one great-granddaughter, Emilyn Addison; sister, Dian Boaldin, and husband, Bob; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Curtis and Reba Whitecotton; and sister, Helen Griggs.
Pallbearers will be Mike Pack, John Barnett, Trent Boaldin, Dr. Christopher Gaines, Bandon Burich, and Andrew Whitecotton.
