August 4, 1941 –  December 26, 2016  Calvin Fred Kays, 75, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, December 26, 2016. He won his courageous four year battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Duff officiating, assisted by nephew, Toby Osburn. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born to Willard Fred Kays and Erna Mae (Lemons) Kays on August 4, 1941 in Tioga, Texas. He went to school at Tioga and graduated from Tioga High School in 1959. He married Joyce Jean Bradford February 6, 1960 in Tioga, Texas and affectionately referred to her as “JJ”. They were married for 56 years. He worked at Weber Aircraft for 29 years and was a Contract Manager for K&D Plastics for over ten years where he retired in January 2008. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tioga, Texas. His hobbies included hunting, bowling, golf, gardening, music and any outdoor activities. He loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks. He was a car enthusiast and had restored his grandfather’s 1950 Ford. He was a long time member of the Tioga Cemetery Association.

Calvin’s favorite saying was, “Where you are today, I once was and where I am today, you will be someday” which was used at both his parent’s funerals. His favorite scripture was John 14: 1-7 from the King James Version.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife, Joyce of Woodbine; son, Mark Kays and his wife, Marcella of Collinsville and daughter, Donna Chambless and husband, Robert of Woodbine; grandchildren, whom he adored, Amanda Chambless, Derek Kays, Cameron Chambless, Micheal Kays and Zachary Kays and sweet great-grandchildren, Audrey, Bailey, Lynnlee, Zoey, Jayden, Andi, Jameson and Chase; brothers-in-law, Archie Bradford and Eddie Bradford and wife, Norma June; sister-in-laws, Belinda Kays, Debbie Kays, Nadine Graves and Lois Ann Osburn, as well as a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Hazelton, Jeff Kays, Scooter Ragsdale, Doug Secrest, Donnie Wooten, Raymond Graves and Don Cravens. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

A special “Thank You” to Texas Oncology, Dr. Tammy Roque and staff and also, a “thank you” for all the calls and visits from our friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Erna Kays and 2 brothers, Jimmy and Glen Dee Kays.
