Southmayd resident Billy Kerr, 68, went home to the Lord Thursday December 3, 2020 at Medical City McKinney after his courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 17, 1952 in Nocona, TX to Bill and Stella Kerr. Billy married the love of his life of 48 years, Debra on August 16, 1972 in Waurika OK. Billy was a lift truck driver in the shipping warehouse of Johnson & Johnson for 35 years. After retirement from there he went on to become a Correctional Officer with Collin County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years. Billy was also a ranch manager for CMH Ranch in Southmayd for 50 years. He was a member of Saint Jo Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Billy served as the Mayor of the City of Southmayd for 20 years and President of TCOG for 2 years.

Funeral services for Billy are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 7th at Meador Funeral Home in Gainesville TX, with Pastor Ricky Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in Callisburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Meador Funeral Home, 1204 E. California Street, Gainesville. Pallbearers will be Colton Rains, Jacob Neusch, Kody Kerr, Nathan Saenz, Aaron Beyer and Danny Powell.

Survivors of Billy Kerr include his loving wife Debra Kerr of Southmayd, daughter and son-in-law Krystal and Danny Powell of Callisburg, son and daughter-in-law Kristopher and Michelle Kerr of Sherman. Eight grandchildren Aaron Beyer, Ciara Powell, Baylee Beyer, Riley Powell, Bailey Powell, Michael Coker, Kody Kerr and Nathan Saenz. Several aunts, uncles and cousins. Billy was proceeded in death by his grandparents John and Ada Kerr of Nocona TX and Coker and Rosie Raines of Sherman TX, his parents Bill and Stella Kerr of Nocona TX and one grandson Colton Powell of Callisburg.

In support of our local, state, and federal government including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, social distancing and the wearing of masks while attending the funeral services and visitation will be observed.
