February 4, 1965 –  August 19, 2013  Funeral services for Bennie Joe Childress, Jr., 48, of Gainesville, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 24th at First Baptist Church Gainesville with Rev. Hollis Parsons officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Alvin Childress, Brian Childress, Clint Perkins, Michael Koelbl, Randy Germany and Ruben Matalanes will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be Ray Kilmer, Javier Acuna and Juan Avina. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home. Mr. Childress died Monday, August 19, 2013.
Bennie Joe was born February 4, 1965 in Wills Point, Texas. He was a contractor and the owner and operator of B.C. Home Improvement. Bennie Childress was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and son. He was a friend to all and a great friend for many. Bennie took pride in his work and felt a great since of accomplishment at seeing something built from nothing, and loved building for his clients who often became friends. Above all, he was devoted to his family. He was always there to help anyone and everyone from the most mundane to life’s biggest challenges, always putting them above himself. He was his happiest spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. He was a shoulder and rock for all of his friends and family. Bennie will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Survivors of Bennie Joe Childress include his wife, Kay Childress of Gainesville; mother, Sarah Poteet Green of Fairfield, Texas; son, Nathan Childress of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Brady Green of Gainesville; grandchildren, Ben Green and Cameron Childress; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Stacy Childress of Collinsville and Brian and Tammy Childress of Corpus Christie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Kevin Phillips of Whitesboro, Brenda and Russell Schmid of Gainesville, Emma Childress of Wichita Falls, Sheri and Willie Payne of Bridgeport and Stacy Childress of Wichita Falls. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Joe Childress, Sr.
