Aora “Wanda” Sherman, 97, of Gainesville, TX passed away on December 24th, 2022, at the Pecan Tree Health and Rehab in Gainesville. Funeral services will be held on January 5th, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until service time on Thursday.
Wanda was born on June 26, 1925, to Aora Perry Howell Sr. and Bertha Lee Graves Howell in Ranger, TX , her daddy always called her “tiny”. She loved to work crossword puzzles, dominos and play solitaire. Wanda was a very private person but even at age 97 she was quick-witted and very spirited and spoke her mind. She was very close to all her siblings as children and whenever they got together they had a great time and acted like no time had passed since they were kids.
She is survived by her brother Aora Perry Howell Jr. (known to all as Junior), sister Betty Jean Fitzmorris and numerous extended family members.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents Aora Perry Howell Sr. and Betha Lee Howell; son Perry Lee Williams; sisters Madeline Kirk, Lila Merritt, and Lola Witherspoon.
Loved visiting with her while she lived at Pecan Creek Village.
Always enjoyed her beautiful flowers.

You were such an inspiration to me in many ways. Your love of gardening, independent spirit and wit were always appreciated. I still have the Tiger Lily’s, Iris and Bleeding Hearts growing from the transplants from your gardens years and years ago. My Aunt, may you rest easy in God’s loving arms.
