October 2, 1916 –  June 17, 2010  WHITESBORO – Funeral Services for William E. Reed, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Mike Flanagan, Rev. Bobby Layman and Rev. Harold Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.William passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Just Like Home Assisted Living Center.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1916 in Falkner, Mississippi to William Joseph and Cora (Higgins) Reed. He married Margreet Stroup on Nov. 13, 1937 in Ripley, Mississippi. He and Margreet moved to Texas in 1953. He was a dairyman and farmer in the Gunter area. In 1964, he purchased the Whitesboro Nursing Home and owned it until 2000. William was ordained as a deacon in the First Baptist Church in Gunter and then, upon moving to Whitesboro, became a deacon at First Baptist Church in Whitesboro. He enjoyed trail rides and was involved in the Texas Sesquicentennial in 1986, driving his covered wagon and team of mules all over north Texas. He loved traveling in their RV and playing golf. Most of all, he treasured the love of his life, Margreet, for 72 years of marriage and their sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Margreet of Whitesboro; 2 sons, Hilton Reed and wife, Brenda of Whitesboro, and Darrell Reed and wife, Sherry of Sherman; 2 daughters, Greta Dempster of Plano, and Vicki Francis and husband James of Sherman; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and 7 sisters.
Pallbearers are Bobby Alexander, Randy Sanders, David Verinder, Mike Case, Travis Maynard and Hank Lovejoy.
