Whitesboro – Funeral Services for Walter Lee Cummings, 97, of Whitesboro will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro, officiated by Hank Lovejoy. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Lee passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at his home in Whitesboro surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 17, 1920 in Mosheim, Texas to Lee Washington Cummings and Mary Mackey McRae Cummings. After graduation Lee enlisted in the United States Navy where he spent the next 20 years serving our country. He served during WWII and his ship was one that had pulled out of Pearl Harbor shortly before the Japanese attack. He married Alice Eileen McCullough on November 1, 1969 in Winter Haven, Ca. He and Alice moved to Whitesboro in 1974 where Lee continued his trade as a welder. Lee worked with the City of Whitesboro to build the fence that extends across Oakwood Cemetery. He used to say the only thing he couldn’t fix by welding it back together was a broken heart. He loved his family and “his princess” Alice and spent his life caring for her and the children. Lee was of the Baptist faith.
Lee is survived by son, Robert E. Turner Jr. and wife, Jean of Auburn, Wa., daughter, Patricia Ann Kephart of Hermiston, OR., daughter, Mary Jean Garner, grandchildren, Tandra Melville, Melissa Melville Luna and husband, Dr. Gregory Luna, John Henry Melville III, Alyssa Koonce and husband, Sean Koonce, Arrie Scribner, and husband, David Scribner, April Elston and husband, Nate Elston, great-grandchildren, Alex Vanchu, Anna Hensley, Clare Sisich, Emma Sisich, Claire Fagerstrom, Kayli Koonce, Cameron Koonce, Alison Scribner, Rachel Scribner, Sara Scribner, Jared Scribner, Jesse Scribner, Justin Scribner, Jordan Scribner, Zoe Elston, Natalie Elston, Anthony Elston and great-great-grandson Nikko Hernandez
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Mary Cummings, his wife of 49 years, Alice Cummings, son, Robert Lee Cummings, brother, Johnny Lee Cummings, brother, Joe Cummings, sister, Jewel Cummings, sister, Fannie Kliebrink, and sister Lola Casimir.
