August 22, 1931 –  April 23, 2008  GAINESVILLE â?? Funeral services for Virgil Frank Hankamer, Jr.,76, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 28, 2008 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Jerry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the funeral home.
Mr. Hankamer passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at River Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville.

Virgil was born on August 22, 1931 in Galveston, Texas to Virgil Frank and Bertie (Cooper) Sr. He lived in Galveston until the age of 12 years old when his family moved to Dallas, Texas. Virgil married Frances Campbell on January 4, 1967 in Dallas. He owned and operated Hankâ??s Jewelry and Gifts in Dallas until his retirement. He later owned â??The Scooter Shopâ? in Dallas. Virgil lived in Dallas until March 2008, which at that time he moved to Gainesville due to an illness to be closer to his family.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Frances Hankamer of Collinsville; a son, Mike Hankamer; and daughters, Rhonda Hankamer and Martine Dove and husband Johnny of Collinsville and a granddaughter, Shannon Dove Middleton and husband Greg of Hewitt, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers are: Frank Ortowski, Tommy Leeper, Tom Roane, Gene Henderson,Rick Hendricks and Joey Glenn.
