October 12, 1931 –  September 11, 2011  BONHAM â?? Richard Earl McKenzie passed away September 11, 2011 in Bonham, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. He was born on October 12, 1931 in Fairbury, Nebraska. He was on the Professional Bowling Tour sponsored by Coke a Cola. He bowled a perfect game. He served in the US Navy from 1950-1954 and was honorably discharged. Dick was in the liquor business for Eddie Draper for many years. He retired and moved to the Gainesville Boat Club where he resided from September 1994 until 2005 when his health declined. He moved to assisted living at Clyde W. Crosper Texas State Veteranâ??s Home where he lived a full life; playing pool, outings to Wal-Mart for his favorite food â?? macaroni and cheese! His character and body stature were bigger than life. I have such fond memories of Dick riding his golf cart through the GBC with a HUGE cigar stuck in his mouth. He could be trailed by the smell of the cigar. At other times, he would attempt to take his dog, Popeye, for walks which were a sight to see. Popeye was large, strong and dragged Dick around like a ragdoll. We still share tales of his legacy and have many laughs. He will be missed.
He is survived by his children: Carla McKenzie, Deborah McKenzie Shaw, and Douglas McKenzie: grandson, Shane McKenzie and wife, Ciera, and great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Max, and Riley of Portland, OR; brother, Dean McKenzie of Fairbury, NE; sister, Doris Creigton of Lenexa, KS; friends: Herman and Cheri Greene of Gordonville, TX; Eddie and Sharon Draper of Gordonville, TX; Tim Sherry Neu of Denton, TX; Monty and Betty Nation of Gordonville, TX; and John Weaver of Gordonville, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Hazel McKenzie; and his sister, Vern McKenzie-Harrison of Dallas, TX.
Memorial services will be at the Gainesville Boat Club on October 2, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.
