She was born to Sam and Nettie Light on a farm in Collinsville, February 1, 1930, the tenth of ten children. Peggy Sue was raised in Collinsville and graduated with honors from CHS in 1947. That same year on November 21st, she married Gene Maglaughlin, also of Collinsville who had returned from serving his country in the Navy during WWII. Together, they began a farm life that lasted 63 years with 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. It seemed that Peggy Sue never left the Collinsville school system. She was a room mother for all her children, more than once, and was active in the PTA. She was there to help her children with any kind of project or chauffeuring for the many activities. Peggy Sue was very active in the Church of Christ. She taught Sunday School for several years at the Ethel Church and made sure that all her children attended Sunday School and church services every week. When the Ethel Church of Christ closed its doors, she moved her membership to Collinsville Church of Christ where she worshipped ever since. After the children had started their own lives, she took up several hobbies, most of them artistic in nature. Her favorite was sewing and needlework, quilting in particular. She enjoyed studying quilting, making quilts and wall hangings and traveling to quilt shows with friends. Her quilts adorn all her children’s and grandchildren’s homes.
Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons,
Peggy is survived by her 5 children; son, Alan Maglaughlin and wife, Elise of Bremerton, WA, daughter, Susan Carney and husband, Bobby of Collinsville, daughter, Mary Jo Davis and husband, Terry of Collinsville, son, Robert Maglaughlin and wife, Karen of Clarksville, TN, and son, Barry Maglaughlin and wife, Kate of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Jeri Jo Belyea, Gage Davis, Richard Maglaughlin, Bobby Maglaughlin, Elizabeth Maglaughlin and Larry Carney; 8 great-grandchildren, Sam, Noah, Brooklyn, Cruz, Jenna, Cora, Justin and Jesse.

We were very lucky to have a mother and father who loved us and cared for us from the day we were born until the day they died. They nurtured us and sent each of us on our way to be who we are, without any judgement and they were always there to help in any way for whatever help we needed.
Your children will always love you and look forward to seeing you again.
