December 29, 1929 –  December 16, 2014  Mom was born on December 29, 1929 in Gainesville, Texas. She joined our Dad on December 16, 2014. She met and fell in love with James Burrus in 1947. They celebrated 64 years together before his passing. While living in Gainesville they had three children, Sherry, Jim and Barbara. In 1955 they moved to Wichita Falls where she was employed by the Wichita Falls ISD. Upon retirement the couple returned to Gainesville.
Her joy in life was first and foremost her family and friends. She also had a passion for reading, travel and sports. She enjoyed friendships in many settings which included bridge groups, 42, Red Hat and Book Club.
Her smile, her laughter and warm hugs will be missed by many. She is survived by her three children and spouses Sherry and Ed Chase, Jim and Barb Burrus, Barbara and John Gardiner; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Bill Burkhart and brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Peggy Long. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Bela Long and a brother, Donnie Long.
Funeral Services for Jean Burrus will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 22nd at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ed Chase, John Gardiner, Jeff Chase, Chris Burrus, Mike Burkhart and Jeff Burkhart. Honorary bearers will be Steve and Gregg Burkhart.
