September 30, 1927 –  August 3, 2012  GAINESVILLE – Funeral Services for Loyd Neal Huckabee, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at Hillcrest Church of Christ in Gainesville with David Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home in Gainesville. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012 at the funeral home. Mr. Huckabee passed away on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1927 in Bonham, Texas to Noah William and Amy (Sparks) Huckabee. He graduated from Sherman High School and served in the U.S. Army. He married Leota Maria Franklin on July 1, 1950 in Sherman. He was a cattle rancher and had managed the Hitchin Post Truck Stop in Gainesville for many years. He was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ. He loved grilling steaks for his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was looking forward to the birth of his fifth great-grandchild this month.
Survivors include his wife, Leota Huckabee of Gainesville; 3 daughters, Carolyn Huckabee of Dallas, Shirley Davenport and husband, Larry of Gainesville, Dee Dee Davenport of Corinth; 5 grandchildren, Gina Thomason and husband Bredger of Forestburg, Jaime Macon and husband, Trent of Weatherford, OK, Ashley Estes and husband, Jacob of Shady Shores, Micah Davenport and wife, Lauri of Gainesville, Kiley Walker and husband, Steven of Corinth; 4 great-grandchildren, Madison Thomason of Forestburg, Collin Macon of Weatherford, OK, Remington Davenport of Gainesville, Roen Davenport of Gainesville; 3 brothers, Noah William Huckabee, Jr. of Saint Jo, Bobby Huckabee of Denison, Edwin Huckabee of Sherman; and a sister, Mary Lois Raines of Sherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Huckabee; and 2 sisters, Betty Nichols and Joyce Huckabee.
Pallbearers will be Micah Davenport, Bart Beck, Bredger Thomason, Trent Macon, Steven Walker, Jacob Estes, Larry Davenport and Mike Davenport.
Honorary pallbearers will be Winston Reed, Jerry Gee, Jerry Wiginton, Larry Beck, and Roy Rauschuber.
