September 13, 1928 –  November 12, 2012  AMARILLO – Kathleen Anne (Noland) Collins, 84, passed away at Spanish Trail Assisted Living Center in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, on November 12, 2012. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, 1394 W. Main St., Whitesboro, Texas 76273 followed by a 2:00 p.m. Memorial service and Celebration of Life at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, 10066 Marsh Lane, Dallas, Texas 75229. The officiating ministers will be Dr. Andy Stoker, Rev. Benjamin J. Shinn, and Rev. Jo Biggerstaff. Graveside Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas.
Kathleen was born on September 13, 1928, to Joe Hamilton and Katie Belle (Samuel) Noland in Goose Creek, Texas. She married L. B. Collins on December 9, 1949, in Denton, Texas. Mrs. Collins was an English Professor having earned her Master’s Degree in English. She taught English from 1960 to 1990 at then West Texas State University. Her specialties were Vocabulary, Children’s Literature and a famous Monday-night, three-hour Creative Writing course that attracted aspiring writers from throughout the Panhandle. She co-authored a book on vocabulary, “From Argonaut to Astronaut,” that went through multiple printings. Based on her teaching accomplishments, in 1992 the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents bestowed on her the honor and title of Professor Emeritus.

She is survived by daughter, Frances Collins of Dallas, TX; son, Tom Collins and wife, Debbie, of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Emily King and husband, Kody, of Austin, TX; sister, Emma Jo Whittenberg and husband, Doc, long-time residents of Hurst, TX.

She was preceded in death by her long-time husband, L. B. Collins, who died in 1985.
