February 24, 1935 –  March 10, 2018  Mesquite – Graveside services for John Douglas (Doug) Van Bevers, 83, of Mesquite, Texas will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Boyd Sawyer officiating. A visitation will be held at Oakwood Cemetery thirty minutes prior to the service. All services will be under the direction of Meador Funeral Home.John was born on February 24, 1935 in Blue Ridge, Texas to Hode and Mary Van Bevers. After graduation he served in the United States Army as an MP. He married Jackie Kay Smith in June of 1962. They were married for 54 years until her death in 2016. Together they raised four children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. John earned an Associate Degree from Eastfield College in refrigeration and air conditioning. He retired from Norwich Pharmaceutical as a custodian and then again from Car-Quest as a delivery driver. John loved coaching little league baseball and playing 42. He enjoyed listening to news radio. One of his favorite things to do was to look for bargains at garage sales.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Rose and husband, Rick; daughter, Gretchen Carter; son, David Van Bevers and wife, Priscilla; son, Daryl Van Bevers; grandchildren, Shawn and Nicole Gregory, Lana and Josh Davis, Evan and Martin Carter, Douglas Van Bevers and Erin Crow, Jacob Rose, Haylie Carter, Samantha Van Bevers and Chris Marsh, Katerina Savignano and Andrew Savignano, great-grandchildren, Landon Gregory, Allison Gregory, Henry Davis, Emma Van Bevers and two sisters, Billie Webb and Shirley Aven.
Pallbearers will be his Grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Van Bevers, Parents, Hode and Mary Van Bevers, great-granddaughter, Ainsley Davis, siblings, Edith Parks, Joe Van Bevers, Valtera Bunch, Opal Harlen, Mary Press and Buck (Lloyd) Van Bevers.
