John Alexander Hughes, 79, of Whitesboro, Texas was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

John was born on November 4, 1943 in Sadler, Texas to John Leonard and Dovie Lucille (Burns) Hughes.  He served proudly in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war.  John was a longtime resident of Whitesboro, he retired from General Motors after more than 30 years of service.  He enjoyed getting together with his brothers and sisters for their monthly poker games and dinners.

He is survived by his daughter, Latrisha Wood and husband, Chris of Sanger; son, David Salling and wife, Rhonda of Sherman; daughter, Leigh Ann Burks of Whitesboro, brother, Lynn Hughes and wife, Brenda of Whitesboro; sister, Patricia Sellers of Flower Mound; sister, Glenda Greb and husband, Jeff of Arlington; sister, Mavis Hughes of Aubrey, grandchildren, Emma, Hayley, Chris, Jennifer, Meagan and Jordan, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dovie Hughes, his wife of 35 years, Helen Hughes, brothers, Joe Hughes and Lyndell Hughes, and sister-in-law, Nell Hughes.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro.
