March 31, 1942 –  November 9, 2015  Jerry Douglas Gentry, 73, of Grannis, Arkansas passed away Monday, November 9, 2015, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Doug was born March 31, 1942, in Gunter, Texas to Sidney D. Gentry & Ella Stuckey Gentry. After graduating from Sherman High School, he served in the US Army, doing tours in Korea & Vietnam. He was married to Mary Hiser Gentry for 45 years. Doug was a Registered Nurse with a BSN & MSN. He taught at Texas A & M, Navarro, TX; Trinity Valley Community College, Kaufman, TX; NCTC, Gainesville, TX & Jefferson Regional Medical Center’s School of Nursing in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, traveling, listening to his “doo-wop” tunes, rebuilding his classic 1965 Chevy pickup, banging his head under any automobile’s hood, telling stories and making people laugh; but he treasured being “Grandpapa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and “Uncle Doug” to his nephews and great nephews. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, who took these roles to heart every day. Doug is survived by his wife, Mary of Grannis, AR; daughter, Nancy Bacon and husband, Shannon of Sadler; sister, Lueda Roegner and husband, Carl of Bonham; grandchildren, Jerod Douglas Gentry of Whitesboro; Ricky Bacon, Carrollton; Robert Bacon, Sanger; Patrick Bacon, Gainesville and Lindsay Bacon, Sadler; great-grandchildren, Kamryn Gentry, Sherman and Mason Gentry, Electra; nephews, Michael Roegner, Whitewright and Anthony Roegner and wife, Colleen of Whitewright; great nephews, Carlton Douglas Roegner and James Michael Roegner, Whitewright; his faithful companion of 5 years, DeDe, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and many family members and dear friends. Cremation was under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas. A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, November 21st at the Wickes Church of Christ in Wickes, Arkansas with David Jacobs officiating. Memorial services will be held December 9, 2015, at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro at 2:00 p.m. Family visitation will be prior to services from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
