May 13, 1925 –  March 30, 2016  Graveside Services for “Jeff” Chandler Francis Dempsey, 90, of Gordonville, Texas, will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Denison, Texas, with Rev. Don Russell officiating. He passed away Wednesday, March 30th with his family by his side. He was born May 13, 1925, in Charlston, South Carolina to Stokes and Mayme (Dyches) Dempsey. He married Martha Donelson Dempsey on February 6, 1949, in Houston, Texas. He and Martha were married for 65 years. He was a member of Waples United Methodist Church of Denison. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor serving in the Army in World War II and Air Force in the Korean War and received 3 Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, and the Pacific Historic Parks. He was a former owner of Walnut Creek Resort in Gordonville and Career Uniform Center in Sherman. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Smart and her husband, Terry, of Del Rio, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Becca Smart of Dallas and Mathew Smart and wife, Min Beto of Del Rio; 2 great-grandchildren, Rhiley and Chandler Smart; 2 sisters, Margie Mizell and Marie Dukes; sister-in-law, Sue Doremus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stokes and Mayme (Dyches) Dempsey; wife, Martha Jane Dempsey; 1 brother, Dewey Dempsey and 2 sisters, Betty Dempsey and Jackie Marsh.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. James Episcopal Church of Del Rio and Home Hospice of Grayson County.
