January 28, 1922 –  May 4, 2016  James Weldon BennettJames Weldon Bennett, 94, Jasper, Texas formerly of Gainesville, passed away May 4, 2016 in Jasper. He was born to S. L. and Thelma (Garvin) Bennett on January 28, 1922. He married Laverne Richardson on January 12, 1941 in Ardmore. Oklahoma.

He had two Masters, a PhD. in Psychology and was a Minister. He also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7th at Meador Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Stobaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville. Viewing from noon on Friday, May 6th until 8:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m. until just before the funeral service.

Survivors include his son, Gary and Amy Bennett of Austin; daughter, Kathy and Rusty Hebert of Jasper; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Sidney Garvin Bennett of Gainesville and son-in-law Wally Berends of McKinney.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Laverne Bennett August 21, 2010 and daughter, Elizabeth Berends.
