June 17, 1933 –  May 4, 2017  WHITESBORO-Funeral services for James Robert Hawkins, 83, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Interment will follow at Nelson Grove Cemetery in Woodbine, Texas. A family visitation will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro.
James passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Denton, Texas.

James was born on June 17, 1933 in Woodbine, Texas to William and Mary (McDaniel) Hawkins. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Army Reserves. James was a barber and owned Hawkins Barber Shop for many years in Whitesboro. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitesboro for over 50 years. James was also a member of Texas Baptist Men and traveled with the Disaster Relief Team traveling to South Africa, Ethiopia and all over the United States. He was a volunteer fireman for many years and served on the board of Nelson Grove Cemetery. James enjoyed raising cattle.

Survivors include his son, James Hawkins and wife, Sherry of Ft. Worth; a daughter, Melanie Pinkston and husband, Jay of Denton; four grandchildren, James D. Hawkins, Cindy Goodyear, Allie Travis and Abbie Pinkston; three great-grandchildren, Jack and Kyle Goodyear and Arabella Hawkins and a brother, Jerry Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Hawkins; three brothers, W.I. Hawkins, Jack Hawkins and Weldon Hawkins and two sisters, Viola Mae Duckworth and Opal Cason.
