August 30, 1927 –  December 19, 2006  Funeral services for James Leroy Covington, 79, will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Whitesboro, with Rev. Mike Flanagan and Rev. Bob Farber officiating, directed by Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the funeral home.
Mr. Covington passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.

Leroy was born in Hollister, OK on August 30, 1927 to Roy Neeley and Effie (Russell) Covington. He married Mary Frances Norman on July 3, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, TX. Leroy served in the United States Army, he was a graduate of Midwestern State University with a degree in Business Administration. He was a former Lt. Gov. of Kiwanis Club. Leroy was a member of First Baptist Church Whitesboro where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon. Leroy loved the Lord and his family. He was a realtor and loved finding the right homes for families. He also worked for Whites Stores Inc, LTV, and served as City finance Director in McKinney and as Finance Director in Wichita Falls. He also coached Baseball.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Covington of Whitesboro; a daughter, Annette Page and husband Doug of McKinney; and a son James N. Covington and wife Sherri of McKinney; a granddaughter, Laurel Page of McKinney; 2 sisters, Oleta Rogers of Crowley and Geri Tomlinson and husband Coleman of Richland Hills; aunt, Lillie Nowlin of San Diego, CA; various nieces, nephews and cousins..

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers are: Hank Lovejoy, Travis Maynard, Jimmy Alexander, Rusty Renfroe, Ray Gann and Ray Pletan

Honorary Pallbearers are: Deacons of First Baptist Church Whitesboro.
