July 9, 1934 –  June 29, 2016  Funeral Services for James Ballard, 81, of Whitesboro, Texas, will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Collinsville, with Rev. Jerry Davis officiating, assisted by Dan Brown. Interment will follow at Sadler Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He passed away Wednesday, June 29th at his home with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.He was born to James Robert and Thelma Mae (McKnight) Ballard on July 9, 1934, in Ethel, Texas. He married Samye Rodgers in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 17, 1959.
He served in the U.S. Army. James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville, and was a retired machinist from Raytheon. He owned and operated James’ Pest Control for 36 years. He was a member of the Whitesboro Masonic Lodge for 60 years. James loved his farm and cows, and loved to spend time with his family. He liked to travel, and enjoyed several cruises, gardening, and the outdoors. James never met a stranger and loved life.
He is survived by his wife, Samye Ballard of Whitesboro; four daughters, Janet Van Sandt and husband, Jack, Jr. of Winfield, Alabama, Kathy Jones and husband, Randy of Allen, Texas, Lynda Matthews and husband, Mark of Gainesville, Texas and Debra Ogden and husband, Chuck of The Colony, Texas; grandchildren, Judy, Maryann, Alyssa, Alex, Logan, Magen, Ethan, Mandy, Lesly, Jason and Jennifer; great- grandchildren, Emily, Scarlet, Madyson, Isaac, Jackson and Athena.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Ballard; step-dad, Ocie Wood and brother, Virgil Wood.
