April 1, 1935 –  February 12, 2012  WHITESBORO – Funeral services for J. Oakey Hagood, 76, will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Ken Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Sandusky, Texas. All services arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Wednesday evening, February 15, 2012 from 6 â?? 8 p.m.He passed away on February 12, 2012 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital â?? WNJ in Sherman, Texas.
Julian Oakey Hagood was born on April 1, 1935 to Julian Oakey and Juanita (Debruler) Hagood in Durham, North Carolina. He married Rebecca Ann Affleck on September 1, 1963 in Big Spring, Texas. He was an avid softball player. He taught and coached in Big Spring for twenty years. Between the years of 1978-2001, he was a banker. He volunteered at Your Neighbors House. He was a member of the True Grit Bible Study for Methodist Men and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Whitesboro, Texas. After retiring from banking in 2001, he moved to Whitesboro, Texas and worked as a substitute teacher. He loved kids and they loved him. He coached pee wee football, baseball, and basketball. He occasionally attempted to golf and loved to travel to the Cayman Islands.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hagood of Whitesboro, Texas; sons: Kent Cook of Bloomington, IL; Roger Roe Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Kim Hickman and husband, Gregg, of Whitesboro, TX; Kevin Hagood and wife, Jill of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Dee Lockmiller and husband, Ken of Lacy, WA; grandchildren: Anna Hagood, Garrett Hickman, Channing Hickman, Weston Hickman, Carson Hickman, Lauren Archibald, Madeleine Archibald; uncle and aunt, Allan and Undine Kernodle; and cousin Katie Griggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Juanita Hagood; and his cousin, Alana Kernodle.
Casket bearers will be Kolton Massick, Matt Hobbs, John Wood, Trey Eleazer, Eddy Ruiz, Chance Hatchell, and Jordon Gill.
