September 22, 1939 –  January 3, 2015  WHITESBORO – Long-time resident of Whitesboro, Grover Leo Railey, 75, passed away Saturday evening, January 3, 2015, at the Denison home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Tony Wilson. He was surrounded by the love of his family and Home Hospice caregivers. Known to most of his friends only as “Skip”, he was born in Dallas, Texas to Eunice Ferguson and David Walt Railey.After graduating from high school he spent the next several years serving in the U. S. Marine Corps and later as a Tanker man in the Merchant Marines. He also held various other jobs he enjoyed very much, such as driving trucks across the United States seeing some beautiful sites, he worked for Grayson County Precinct 4 out of Gordonville, where he met his good friend Buck Cecil. He was a great mechanic. He worked in security and as a caretaker for Ross Perot at Lake Texoma. Skip served as the campaign manager for Ross Perot during the 1992 Presidential Campaign. Before he retired, he owned the Apple Blossom Art Gallery in Sherman, where he met a lot of very talented artist friends.
Skip was also a very talented artist, storyteller, most of them true, and an amateur poet. He could talk and tell stories of adventures for hours; he loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed fishing, working, drawing, and playing with the grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Martha Railey; Apollo, his “good-boy” and shopping companion; sons: Edward “Butch” Morgan and his wife, Lisa, of Bridgewater, Virginia; David Johnson and his wife, Lauri, of Gunter; daughters: Michele Pierce and her husband, Mike, of Bells; Leanne Wilson and her husband, Tony, of Denison; nine grandchildren: Sarah Mills and her husband, Cody; Lynsee Wilson, Justin Johnson, Zayne and M’Kayla Pierce, Kara and Kolin McSwain, Kaylea and Ty Johnson; two great-grandchildren: Wyatt “Sugar Bear” and Emma Mills, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; second mother, Betty Railey; sister, Helen Rice; and two brothers: Jim and Jerry Railey.
Family and friends will gather in remembrance on Friday, January 9, 2015, in the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas. A Visitation Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service which will begin at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Mike Bentley. http://videos.lifetributes.com/556798
