August 16, 1950 –  April 28, 2011  SHERMAN – Funeral Services for Gloria LeAnn (Bates) Purdy, 60, will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, May 2, 2011 at Victory Family Church located at 400 W. Hwy. 380, Decatur, Texas 76234, with Rev. Allen Bates and Rev. James deMelo officiating. Graveside service will follow at 3 P.M. at Archer City Cemetery in Archer City, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas.
Mrs. Purdy passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at her home in Sherman, surrounded by her loving family.

Gloria was born on August 16, 1950 to George W. and Cleota (Smith) Bates in Dallas. She married Jack Purdy on April 27, 1968 in Benson, Arizona. Gloria was a member of Covenant Church in Sherman. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Purdy of Sherman; a daughter, Misty deMelo and husband James of Sherman; a son, Josh Purdy and wife, Stephanie of Ft. Worth; father, George Bates of Decatur; 2 brothers, George L. Bates of Henrietta and Allen Bates of Decatur; 2 sisters, Evelyn Ryan of Denison and Diane Sartain of Ft. Worth; 8 granddaughters, Alexa, Mikayla and Elissa deMelo and Haley, Hannah and Olivia Boyd and Sydni and Trinity Shade

Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Cleota Bates.

Pallbearers are: Richie Bates, Chris Bates, Wesley Sisk, Bryon Sartain, Darin Sartain and Robby Sartain.
