Gladys was a member of North Hills Baptist Church in Whitesboro. She was employed for a number of years at Prices Department Store. Patterson surrendered to preach when she was 10 years old and she recalled that he pastored 4 churches, holding services one Sunday a month at each church, and on the 5th Sunday they would all come together to sing, preach, worship and have dinner on the ground.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. James C Patterson and Mary Etta Wheeless Patterson, 4 brothers: Arnold, Monroe, Dillard, and Paul Patterson, and 2 sisters, Lucille Morrow and Sue Ingram.

She is survived by her husband, Luther Hensley, and three children, Ben Hensley and wife Sheila of Pottsboro, Charles Hensley and wife Sonja of Austin, Patricia Farm and husband Buzz of Syracuse, Indiana; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; 1 brother, John Patterson, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
