June 30, 1925 –  July 31, 2016  Military Honors and Services for George A. Hilzer, Sr., 91, of Whitesboro, Texas, will be held Friday, August 5, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rick Isham officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side.He was born to George Philip and Eva (Meyer) Hilzer on June 30, 1925, in Henderson, Colorado. He married Gradene (Blevens) Hilzer on December 23, 1981, in Vernon, Texas. George was a Master Mason of Gordonville Lodge AF&AM #536, and was a member of Violett Baptist Church of Callisburg, Texas. He was retired from the Air Force/Navy after 20 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Gradene Hilzer of Whitesboro; son, George Hilzer of Austin; daughters, Barbara Burns of Mesquite and Virginia Jones of Mesquite; step-sons, Weldon Thomison of Burns City and Jason W. Thomison of Callisburg; brother, Adam Hilzer of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva Hilzer; step-mom, Irene Dumler; wife, Billie Marie Vaughan; brothers, Philip and Harold Hilzer; sisters, Thelma Hilzer and Wilma Wielbert; step-brothers, Paul, Reynold and Edward Seibel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
