November 14, 1928 –  April 7, 2012  GAINESVILLE – Graveside Services for Dorothy Jean Speake, 83, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Spring Creek Cemetery in Cooke County with Rev. Doyle Henderson officiating. Services are under the direction of Meador-Clement-Keel Funeral Home in Gainesville. No formal visitation is planned but viewing will be from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Dorothy passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Denton Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Nov. 14, 1928 in Whitesboro to Donald DeLapp and Lottie Elizabeth (Turner) DeLapp. She was married to Robert William Speake. He preceded her in death in 2005. She had worked with her husband, Robert , in the grocery business in Denton. Afterward, she worked as a bank teller and also was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW in Denton and Gainesville for many years. She loved reading as a hobby and was a Methodist.
Survivors include 2 sons, Steven W. Speake and wife, Gay of Austin, Texas and Garry Speake of Gainesville, Texas; a sister, Janie Thomas of Denton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
