Services for Cordell Martin, 99, are scheduled for August 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville, Texas, with Rev. Doyle Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Gainesville.

Cordell Martin passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at Cherry Street Village Assisted Living Facility in Nocona, Texas. He was born on July 10, 1919 near Whitesboro to Otto and Ida Lou (Thompson) Martin. Cordell married Bonnie Wydell Lewter in Gainesville on November 30, 1940. Cordell’s farming experience, his knowledge of electronics, his perseverance and integrity led him into many challenging work experiences over his long career. He prioritized responsibility, maintained a high standard of work ethics and persevered until a job was done correctly. He was a long time resident of Gainesville and was an engineer at radio station KGAF at the time it began broadcasting. He later became the manager of Carter Cable TV System in Gainesville and remained there until his retirement. In retirement, Cordell and Bonnie enjoyed traveling in their RV, spending summers in Colorado and winters in South Texas. After they could no longer travel they moved to Cherry Street Village Assisted Living, where there was acreage that allowed Cordell to have a large garden. He was proud to grow numerous vegetables that were served in the dining room of the facility.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Martha May Martin of Arlington; granddaughter, Melissa Rose Martin of Arlington and several nieces and nephews.

Cordell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Bonnie; brother, Kenneth Martin and sister, Audrey Martin Miler Brock.

Visitation is from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., August 2, 2018, at Meador Funeral Home, Gainesville, Texas.
