March 26, 1927 –  January 10, 2018  GAINESVILLE – Funeral services for Rev. Charles E. Carter, Jr., 90, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Whitesboro with Rev. Jack Crockett and Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Interment will follow at Macomb Cemetery. No visitation is planned.

Rev. Carter passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Denton Rehabilitation Center in Denton.

He was born on March 26, 1927 to Charles E., Sr. and Adelia (Price) Carter in Big Spring, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and entered the ministry in 1948. He graduated from Hardin Simmons in Abilene, Texas. Rev. Carter served in many capacities during his lifetime. He was a police officer in Big Spring and Brownwood, was an insurance agent, taught at Midland College, served as the Municipal Court Judge in Whitesboro for 13 years, taught Criminal Justice at North Central Texas College in Gainesville from 1983 until his retirement in 2000. He also served as a supply evangelist for many different churches over the years. Rev. Carter was a member of Cross Point Baptist Church in Gainesville and Lambda Epsilon Chi Fraternity. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and ranching. He was an avid Texas Rangers fan.

Survivors include a son, Terry Carter and wife, Wanda of Fort Worth; a daughter, Kimberley Dietrich of Denton; grandchildren, Stephanie McCown, Tim Carter, and Rowdy Clark; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dee Carter; and a sister, Nettijean McEwen.

Pallbearers will be Jim Keeler, Billy Dennis, Jimmy Grounds, Dale Alsup, Phil Clark, and Rowdy Clark.

Honorary pallbearer will be Stanley Welch.
