April 2, 1922 –  April 17, 2008  WHITESBORO รข?? Funeral Services for Carl McClendon, 86, will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Whitesboro with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. VFW and Masonic graveside rites will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the funeral home.
Carl passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008 at his residence.

He was born on April 2, 1922 near Whitesboro to William S. and Ethel (Johnson) McClendon. Carl was a U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts. He married Marie Smith on April 20, 1946 in Whitesboro. Carl served as the first Police Chief of Whitesboro and retired after 22 years of service. He had also worked in the oil field. Carl was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Gainesville. He was also a member of Whitesboro Masonic Lodge #263 A.F.&A.M. Carl had a special love for horses.

Survivors include his wife, Marie McClendon of Whitesboro, a daughter, Kaye Hines and husband Harold of Corsicana, special friend, Connie Cooper of Denison, three grandchildren, Chad Bingham and wife Amy of Mildred, Cassandra Bingham of San Angelo and Crystal Hernandez and husband Eric of San Angelo, four great grandchildren, Lyndsey, Ashton, Callie and Sarah, and three nephews, Dean, Jerald and Ronnie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel McClendon, a daughter, Sue Woolsey, three brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Dean Bullard, Jerald Bullard, Ronnie Bullard, Brandon Smith, Randy Smith and Gene Young.

Honorary Pallbearers will be John Balkam, Tillman Cason, Gene Bomar, Mo Campbell, Al Brunson, Merzon Culpepper and J.P. Henderson.
