December 5, 1926 –  July 4, 2007  WHITESBORO â?? Graveside Services for Billy Bob Phelps, will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro. Family visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 P.M. Friday, July 6, 2007 at the funeral home.
Billy Bob went to meet his Lord on July 4, 2007 at the age of 80 years 6 months and 29 days at the Whitesboro Nursing Center.

Billy Bob was born on December 5, 1926 in Dexter, Texas to Robert William and Mary Elnora â??Mamieâ? (Miller) Phelps. He attended schools in Dixie and Whitesboro. He was a WWII Veteran, serving as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He married Mary â??Ragsâ? Holley on May 23, 1946 in Denison. Billy Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Whitesboro. He retired from GTE after 26 years of service. He held lifetime memberships with the VFW Post 2772 in Sherman and the National Rifle Association. Billy Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, and was usually accompanied by his nephews and neighborhood boys.

Billy Bob is survived by his wife, Mary â??Ragsâ? Phelps of Whitesboro; a son, Robert â??Genoâ? Phelps of Whitesboro; a brother, Joe Ray Phelps of Whitesboro; a sister-in-law, Wanda Davis and husband Jim of Gordonville; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant twin sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to donorâ??s favorite charity.
