June 12, 1918 –  December 24, 2004  Whitesboro-Funeral Services for Albert E. “Ab” McKenzie age 86; will be 10 A.M., Monday, December 27, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church in Whitesboro with the Rev. Richard Nourse officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. McKenzie died Friday, December 24, 2004 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.

He was born June 12, 1918 at Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Jess and Josie Spencer McKenzie. He married Mertie Shwadlenak on July 13, 1940 at the Hughes Chapel Baptist Church in Delaware Bend, Texas.

Mr. McKenzie worked for W.B. Ballew Trucking Co. for 20 years and retired from Grayson County Pct. 3 in 1988 after 20 years of service. He loved visiting people, helping anyone in need and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife: Mertie McKenzie of Whitesboro; a daughter: Judy Phelps and husband John of Whitesboro; 2 step-sisters: Doris Shwadlenak of Whitesboro and Marie Franklin of Sherman; 2 grandchildren: Johnna Driggers of Arlington and Steven Phelps of Abilene. 8 great-grandchildren: Erika Rigdon, Blythe and Blayne Driggers, Kristen, Ashley and McKenzie Phelps and Dale and Brittney Abrego.

He was preceded in death by 7 brothers: Earl, Orris, Karl, Overton, Bud and Billy Don McKenzie and Clifton Spencer; 2 sisters: Gladys Riddle and Willie Wendt.

Pallbearers are: Steven Phelps, Brad McKenzie, Jackie Crisp, Michael Taylor, Larry Riddle and Audie Hall.
